Asthma training
This course is designed to train participants to deal with asthma attacks in a range of situations, including kindergartens and child care centres, schools, public places, workplaces, and sporting events.
Relevant sections of the course have been based on the Asthma Management Handbook , developed by the National Asthma Council (NAC) to provide guidelines for best practice asthma management.
The course has been developed by Asthma Victoria and reviewed by members of the Services and Training Committee of Asthma Victoria.
The elements of competency of the course are:
a) Assess symptoms to determine the severity of an asthma emergency.
b) Correctly use a spacer and blue reliever medication to reduce the severity of an asthma attack.
c) Demonstrate the correct technique for administering assisted ventilation with lateral chest pressure in an asthma emergency where applicable.
d) Follow infection control guidelines in line with current best practice.
